At the Golf Course

Elaine and I were at a golf course east of the city this afternoon.   The golfing and supper was arranged by my work department.  The same as last year, Elaine golfed while I drove the golf cart.   It was a beautiful afternoon 30C with mostly sunny sky and a light breeze.

I got some pictures of Elaine golfing.   This is only the second time I have been along to see her golfing, the first being at the same event last year.   I was quite proud of how well she did.

There are a lot more very large houses being built around the golf course.

We both had a great time and enjoyed the supper as well.  We each had bison burgers which were quite tasty.  But after a hot afternoon we are glad to be back home again.

First Day of Summer

We had a fairly nice weekend and the weather was good for a bbq on Sunday for supper .  Today,  June 21 is officially the first day of summer.  This afternoon we are in a thunderstorm with a heavy downpour of rain.  Now there is a tornado watch for this area.

We have not had as much rain here as we have been seeing on the news for other places.  There has been flooding in many areas from the northeast to the southwest.

The Trans Canada highway is washed out near the Alberta border.  Maple Creek was also flooded and people had to be evacuated.

Blue Sky

We woke up this morning to a beautiful blue sky after many days (it seems like weeks) of cloud and rain.  We will enjoy it while we can because there is more rain in the forecast for next week.

I have been looking at the new templates in Blogger and liked this picture window design with the blue sky.  I decided this would be a good day to switch to this.   I also like the column width in this template although I could adjust it if I want to.

I Know the Master of the Wind

One of my favourite accounts in the Bible is  about Jesus in the Boat where he calmed the storm, recorded in three of the gospels:  Matthew 8:23-27, Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:22-25.

Jesus and his disciples were out in a ship and there were also with them other little ships.  A great storm came up with waves beating on the ship and it was full of water.   Jesus was in the back of the ship asleep on a pillow.  The disciples woke Jesus and said  "Master, carest thou not that we perish?"

Jesus arose and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, "Peace, be still."  And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. Then Jesus said to his disciples "Why are ye so fearful?  How is it that ye have no faith?"

The disciples feared exceedingly, and said one to another, "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

This week I heard a recording of a song  "Master of the Wind" by Joel Hemphill.  The words of the chorus are:

I know the Master of the wind.
I know the Maker of the rain.
He can calm a storm, make the sun shine again.
I know the Master of the wind.

This gives me a lot of confidence that "I know the Master of the wind" and he can still speak "Peace be still!" no matter what the storms of life.

You can hear this song on a video sung by the composer's daughter Candy Hemphill Christmas at this link.
